A local bus carries him to the railway station. It’s driver deposited him at the station door. It was twenty minutes before the Carlisle train arrives. Just enough time to get a cup of tea. Thirty minutes later he was stepping down into a bygone period; for Hellifield station until recently has appeared firmly stuck in a time warp. A visit to the stations platform cafe, provided an excellent sausage butty and a steaming mug of tea, whilst he waited for the ex Morecambe boat train. Morecambe and Wise would have certainly had something to say about the onward nautical ride to Carnforth…Peachy…

Footnote: After posting this story, it will be my pleasure to undertake the journey described. Meeting up with a good friend at Hellifield. Then we will travel to Carnforth station, for coffee at it’s rather historic cafe. After checking out the stations clock, and later a a well stocked model shop on one of the redundant platforms. The station clock has become quite famous, after it appeared in the 1945 film Brief Encounters…

    1. Thank you Iain. The world is full of marvellous places. There are so many I know I will never reach. So I enjoy what is on my doorstep. Today the air was crisp and I saw a fine Heron. Such things please me.
