The Nature of the Beast

Thank you Rochelle,
Thank you Rochelle, for this interesting picture.

Walking this beautiful passageway one could be forgiven for not seeing the true reality of life here. To the left Madam Shaffener  kept a house of ill repute, her sixtyone cats terrorised the neighbourhood birds. To the right  Mr Nutter sat each day at his work bench, whittling pieces of flotsam into small animals, which he sold to the many tourists who arrived daily on cruise boats. Both Mr Nutter and Madam Shaffener however held a secret passion. Each was indebted to the other for this passion. When darkness arrived, they would climb their staircases, then one would cross the arch.

    1. Thank you Courtney; nothing wrong with two lonely souls comming together. I am reading a less well known book by Daphne du Maurier [called Mary Ann] at present, perhaps some of her magic rubbed of on me.

    1. Sadly it is something I do, then again perhaps all writers try to look deeper into their characters. I am reading a less well known book by Daphne du Maurier [called Mary Ann] at present, perhaps some of her magic rubbed of on me.

  1. Beautiful. Why do they meet in the secret? Fear of judgement by the society? And I like the way that the invisible top part of the arch (in the picture) plays a vital role in your story. Cheers, Varad
