The Lie

Each day dozens of people walk past us, they believe that we were worn by a famous individual, but they are mistaken. You see the lady that these shoes were brought for had a bad calluses. Yes you are right they where the result of wearing shoes which where badly designed. So when my mistress was given this pair of shoes, she smiled and offered the normal thanks. Then she placed us in her shoe cupboard. So you see she never worn us.

But later a house maid took a fancy to us; and so once a month when the mistress was visiting family, this maid placed us on her feet and wandered from room to room in the mansion. So we never left the house and the Lady of the house never wore us. Sadly now we are placed on public display, yet still once a month the maid visits, although these days she can not take us walking. You see as mementos from one of the greats, we are too valuable to allow a mere mortal to wear us. Instead we have been stuffed and venerated. But the maid loved us…

    1. Thank you Keith, all shoes have tales to tell I guess, mostly of how hard they have to work. I am struggling to comment at present, as I am preoccupied with completing a children’s Model Railway, deadline next week.
