Recalling the Past

There are many things that I miss child. It still hurts to recall how things were before we were driven underground. No one saw it coming, but we should have. The weather just got hotter and hotter. Most of us were happy. That was until the sun started to turn red. Soon all the snow and ice disappeared. It became so hot that lots of humans became ill. Then we started digging.

Within fifty years, we had all gone underground. The heat from the old oceans helped us find new ways of surviving and caused fungus to grow, giving us food. But now every few years we are being driven deeper. Soon we will have to face the scattered rocks caused by humans mining shale gas.

But tomorrow we will celebrate something they called winter. Apparently in the winter the world turned white and the humans built idols, which they called snowmen. But there are no men left now. They fled this place. But we went deep and survived. The earth belongs to us now.
