Dark Matters

All around lay the abandoned waste of humanity. Spent cells from World War Two batteries polluted dirty water. Treacle black oil dripped from a cracked car sump. Reams of top secret papers were slowly spreading across soil sticky with blood. Blood which appeared almost black as hordes of flies descended upon it. Shamus O’Riley was lying face down, his mac collar was turned up as all good detectives wore it in the movies of the day. Inspector Jameson took this all in, but what really challenged his brain, was the Art Deco black board leaning upon what looked like an old chicken shed. Everything indicated that the secret service was involved. Jameson wondered what kind of circles O’Riley had moved in. Then there was that empty packet of Black Market cigarettes: Turkish. As the inspector bent down to examine O’Rileys head wound, a shot rang out.

‘Cut’.

Who changed the bloody script?.

You can get up Jameson.

But the actor playing O’Riley, smelt and saw real blood.

Footnote: it always amazes me where a prompt picture take me. Today it was to a ‘who done it’
