A Dales Lass

High on the remote moorland a young girl sat. By her side lay a sketch pad, if you been able to turn the pages, you would marvel at the detailed drawings of Dales plants and wildlife. Having just finished a delicate pencil sketch of cotton-grass, Louise found herself thinking about a crystal clear pool she had recently found. She still had time to follow the stream down the dale to the deep rock pool. Unspoilt and quiet it had stirred her to write poetry. Arriving she was saddened to see a sack caught between two rocks. Then she heard the whimper…

Thank you Neil, It took my muse sometime to wake up this week. So I am grateful for your feedback.

The whimper suggests she has found the sack just in time.

Sadly only one puppy survived the water, he will go on the have a full life if my muse has anything to do with it.

At least if it’s whimpering, it’s still alive.

    1. Michael Humphris

Yes a tiny scrap of a dog, but he will survive and have a full life if my muse has anything to do with it

She’ll be too busy to sit and draw for a while at least! Lovely story.

Thank you Liz, it seems that I may also be busy writing up some of this canine’s adventures

Fascinating story. I think she’s just acquired a baby.

    1. Michael Humphris

When I started writing this story I was thinking of Charlie’s Kingsleys book about water babies. But my muse is determined to tell a series of stories about a puppy who in time will be known as Buster. Thank you Jilly

Save the kitties!! Another lovely sounding landscape

    1. Michael Humphris

Sadly it could be kittens …Or perhaps a puppy who will become known as Buster. Thank you Stuart

The heartlessness of some people never fails to amaze me. Lovely, sad but promising tale.

Well told Michael, I have actually made such a discovery myself, unfortunately none of the puppies were alive

    1. Michael Humphris

So sad to hear about the puppies, Michael

It was in a canal in France. A long time ago now

        1. Michael Humphris

A sad event where ever it occurs. I am very much a softy these days

  14. Björn Rudberg (brudberg)

What a terrible way of killing puppies… but I think this could be the beginning of a story of a girl and her dog…

    1. Michael Humphris

I think that you may be right, Björn

  15. granonine

Oh, how sad–and at the same time, the beginning of a wonderful friendship for the poor little drenched pup who is about to be love-smothered 🙂

    1. Michael Humphris

He will have an eventful life, if my muse has anything to do with it.
