Ivy realised that Septimus needed a new focus. Each day he followed her to work and had become a fine mason in his own right. Ivy turned to Lance their gangmaster for help. Now Lance was a gifted businessman and had recently been asked if he could rebuild the lord of the manors castle. So Lance set Septimus the task of designing a palace fit for the new century.
At first Septimus was flummoxed. Sketching out bridges for his old master the abbot was one thing, but designing a palace stretched him to the limit. That was until Septimus recalled the abbots crozier. Standing tall and finely gilded, with sweeping curves, its design was fit for a king. Septimus trimmed the end of a quill and set to work. One week later Lance had the contact to build the palace. Septimus was given the role of Architect. The serpentine parapets with their overhanging bartizans supported on corbels would really test her capabilities as a stone mason. Ivy smiled, now her man had his focus. Soon Septimus was turning out detailed drawing as if he was Michelangelo. Ivy smiled for some looked more like machines carrying people to the stars.
